Scholastics Tests

Overview of scholastics tests

Amongst the scholastic tests that are available in the marketplace, there are 5 major tests that are used to evaluate potential students for higher education.

These are: SAT, ACT,GRE, GMAT and TOEFL

Another purpose of these scholastic tests is to provide a common platform to evaluate international students who possess admission qualifications of varying standards from different countries.

Currently, the most popular test for undergraduate admission is the SAT. In United States, the SAT is more popular in the northeast and west coasts whereas the ACT is ore widely used in the mid-west and the southeast. In Singapore, applicants to Singapore Management University are requested to submit their SAT scores. The National University of Singapore and the Nanyang Technological University use the SAT mainly for foreign students.

The GMAT is used for graduate business program admission eg MBA.

The GRE is a required examination for many graduate schools in USA. The admissions department at the universities will use the GRE in various ways to asses the suitability of students to undertake a non-business master’s degree.

Students should note that many popular universities across the world take the scholastic test scores seriously and top universities like Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Princeton or Yale require high test scores.
