Murdoch has over 15,000 students including 3000 international students in its campuses in Perth, Western Australia. International students come from 93 countries and around 2000 students study in offshore international study centres in Singapore, Malaysia and Japan.
Murdoch is well known for providing excellent student services for international students. They have international student liaison officers on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Murdoch University Singapore is very popular with polytechnic graduates and the university offers a range of degrees suitable for polytechnic graduates who would like to study for a part-time bachelor’s degree in the shortest possible time without interrupting their careers.

Murdoch University has attracted food entrepreneurs and their family members.
Notable alumni include the trio of Andrew Chan, Anna Lim and Benedict Leow – founders of the Soup Spoon restaurant chain. Similarly, Tina Tan, the owner of Original Hock Lam Street Beef Kway Teow, is a marketing and media graduate of Murdoch University.  Shaye Han, the daughter of Han's founder Mr Han Choon Fook, is a media studies graduate of Murdoch University and she is on the management team of Han's.

Another high profile alumnus is millionaire Dr Ng Cher Yew, Executive Chairman of SGX-listed and China-oriented Oceanus Limited and operator of Ah Yat Abalone restaurant chain. In 2011, his company suffered an extensive loss of hundreds of millions of dollars after 42 million abalone died mysteriously in their China farms. Dr Ng Cher Yew is a Colombo Plan scholar who graduated from Murdoch University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery.
